Our History
In November 1976, Keene Baptist Temple was started by Tabernacle Baptist Church of Litchfield, NH. It was the desire of those who started the work to establish a Bible-based local church for the area. They began by renting different areas in the town of Keene; from halls to former church buildings; and even having baptisms in the local YMCA. This small group of believers were starting to win some people to Jesus Christ, baptizing them and seeing them grow in the Lord.

In the early 1980s, they bought a house with a 3-car garage on Lower Main Street in Keene. It was in that house that the pastor’s family lived and hosted Sunday School classes for children, while the garage was converted into an auditorium.

After several years of growth, trials, and changes, Keene Baptist Temple finally bought a larger piece of property in the town of Swanzey, only six miles away from the garage. There they converted a roller rink (originally built as a horse riding barn) into a church for the community. Many people sacrificed much time and finances to have the work done on the building. Finally, on September 10, 1989, the building was officially dedicated unto the Lord.

A few years later, the name of the church was changed to Cornerstone Baptist Church. CBC is still a Bible-based, local church for the area, reaching people for the Lord Jesus Christ.

We trust that you can come and be part of our history for the next twenty-five years.
